avisé labs gets new funding from the German federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space for Stanford Collaboration

We are excited to announce that Avisé Labs has applied together with Stanford Dermatology to the Innowwide Program (www.innowwide.de) and we’re incredibly excited that the Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt (BMFTR) (bmftr.bund.de) is once again trusting us with funding to explore this new project!
A quick note on scope: this Innowwide grant funds the market feasibility study only, assessing the market, regulatory, and technical viability of an AI-assisted Skin Frailty Assessment tool in the U.S. The subsequent technology development with Stanford will be funded separately by the NIA (National Institute on Aging) in the U.S.
The challenge: Skin frailty affects an estimated 30% of adults aged 65+, translating into more than 20 million people in the U.S. alone. It leads to bruising, tearing, and delayed wound healing, and emerging research links it to broader age-related conditions such as osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, and neurodegenerative disorders. Despite its prevalence and clinical relevance, no standardized, validated digital tool exists today to objectively assess it.
The opportunity: The laboratory of Professor Anne Lynn S. Chang at Stanford Dermatology has developed and clinically validated a scoring system for skin frailty, alongside a large, standardized repository of annotated digital skin images. Combined with Stanford’s ongoing research into the links between skin frailty and systemic health risks, this creates a strong scientific foundation for AI-driven frailty detection and risk stratification.
Our role: As part of a planned R&D collaboration, Avisé Labs will work with Stanford to develop an AI-assisted Skin Frailty Assessment tool, leveraging our LifeStream Analytics platform and our expertise in AI, software development, and data engineering to support model optimization and clinical integration.
This first step: This Innowwide market feasibility project precedes the R&D collaboration and focuses exclusively on the U.S. market, laying the groundwork for a scalable, clinically validated, and equitable digital health product solution ahead of the NIA-funded pure technology development phase.
